COMPARATIVE FORMS OF ADJECTIVES BY AFFIX COMBINATIONS UM-AN IN TOBA BATAK

The objectives of this paper are to investigate the formation complex words that have more than one affix i.e comparative forms adjectives by combinations [um-an] in Toba Batak. results show inflectional Batak result various morphological and phonological processes as follows: (1) if is attached preceded vowels [a], [e], [i], [o], [u], pronounced [umm-an]sound with double [m]. (2) initial phoneme a base adjective bilabial plosive voiced consonant [b], [ub-an] sound its allomorph. (3) velar [g], [uŋ-an] sound. (4) palato alveolar affricate [j] spelt [un-an] but [uj-an] (5) nasal [m] does not change. (6) an [n], (7) voiceless [p], [up-an] (8) rolled [r], [ur-an] (9) fricative [s], [us-an] (10) [t], [ut-an] stress put final syllable, i.e. [-an] modified words.
